Standard
Wheelchair
- A standard
wheelchair has fixed height, removable,
full-length arms; swing-away, detachable
foot rests; and wheel locks. It will
accommodate patients 5'5" to 6' and
weighing between 110-to-200 pounds.
Medicare
- Capped rental. Covered if the following
criteria are met:
- Patient needs a wheelchair
for mobility in the home.
- If the patient needs adjustable
height arms, the following
criteria must be met:
- Patient must be in the
wheelchair at least two
hours per day.
- Patient must have a
need for an arm height
different from fixed height
arms.
Standard
Wheelchair with Elevating Leg Rests
- Elevating leg rests support the
lower leg and adjust to allow various
degrees of elevation.
Medicare
- Capped Rental. Coverage requires
the following criteria:
- Patient needs a wheelchair for
mobility within the home.
- Elevating leg rests are covered
when one or more of the following
criteria are met:
- The patient has a musculoskeletal
condition or the presence
of a cast or brace which prevents
90 degree flexion at the knee.
- The patient has significant
edema of the lower extremities
that requires having an elevating
leg rest; or
- The patient meets the critieria
for and has a reclining back
on the wheelchair.
