you to move freely about your
house using your walker or cane.
- Be aware of the danger of falling
if the carpeting is loose.
- Use ramps with caution
- Do not use walker while climbing
stairs.
- Use caution when a wheeled
walker, to prevent the walker
from scooting away from you.
- Use walkers and canes with
caution when walkways are wet
or icy.
- When using folding walkers,
make sure you have locked the
walker in the open position.
- If you choose a three wheeled
walker, learn how to operate the
brakes properly to avoid falling.
Fire
Safety
- Plan exit procedures - be aware
of the extra time it will take
to exit your home if you are using
a walker or a cane.
- Use smoke detectors in your
home.
- Become aware of the hazards
of smoking in bed.
- If fire extinguishers are available
make sure you know how to use
them.
